In the framework of the V meeting of the EUROSAI Working Group on the Audit of Funds Allocated to Disasters and Catastrophes, the Accounting Chamber has held an international workshop in Tirana on topic: "Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes: Problems, Implications and Challenges". The event has chaired by Victor Bohun, the member of the Accounting Chamber.
The participants of the workshop have discussed current issues on catastrophes prevention and management. Such issues as implementation of the Basel Convention and the control of transboundary movements have been referred to in particular. They also have been talking about the dangers of electronic and electrical wastes and gaps in the legislation of both Ukraine and European countries. Particular attention has been paid to the illegal trade in pesticides, in particular online trade.
The event was attended by international experts: the coordinator of the Program for the Development of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Ukraine Mykhailo Malkov (Ukraine), expert on environmental protection and waste management Elina, Velinova Stoyanova-Lazarova (Bulgaria) and expert of the Program Support Teams of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Tetyana Tevkun (Ukraine). Volodymyr Pikhotskii and Inha Kramarenko have spoken on behalf of the Accounting Chamber, of Deputies at the workshop, Stodoła Kazimierz – on behalf of the SAI of the Republic of Poland.
In general 43 participants from 13 countries have joined the workshop.
The workshop has demonstrated, among other things, the feasibility of cooperation between auditors and experts from independent organizations, in particular organizations under UN auspices.
