VI EUROSAI-ARABOSAI International Joint Conference "SAIs Auditing Effectiveness of the Climate Change Policy" is due to take place in May 2022 in Ukraine.
The relevant draft resolution was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
That was the Accounting Chamber who initiated the conference. Representatives of the supreme audit institutions of 73 European countries and the Arab world are to be invited to participate in the coming event.
"For the first time in 30 years of our independency, our country will host an international event of such a high level with the participation of supreme audit institutions. And the fact that the Accounting Chamber’s of Ukraine initiative of holding this conference in Ukraine has supported by the Governing Boards of EUROSAI and ARABOSAI, shows the high authority and support of our country by the international community", Chairman of the Accounting Chamber Valeriy Patskan said.
He stressed that combating climate change and protecting the environment are a top priority of the domestic and foreign policies of many countries. And our State is no exception, as to the speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly who assured that Ukraine will strengthen its participation in the global fighting against climate change. The importance of the recommendations of the supreme audit institutions in the implementation of climate change policy was emphasized at the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow at the end of 2021.
"Our goal is to share experiences between the SAIs of European and Arab countries on major challenges of climate change. We have to work together to increase the effectiveness of public policies to combat the climate change impacts through our recommendations to the executive bodies. These are the problems every country is facing. Despite all the challenges Ukraine is facing today, the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine will make every effort to hold a conference at the appropriate level and work together with our colleagues on joint approaches", Valeriy Patskan added.
The international joint conference of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) and the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) is scheduled on May 17-19 in Kyiv.
The Accounting Chamber of Ukraine has been a member of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) since 1999, one of the 7 regional organizations established within the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). INTOSAI consists of 196 full members.
