Supreme Audit Institutions play a key role on the way of their countries to EU membership – Andrii Maisner

The Acting Chairman of the Accounting Chamber Andrii Maisner took part in the online meeting of the Presidents of the SAIs of the Network of Supreme Audit Institutions of Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the European Court of Auditors, the Support for Improvement in Governance and Management (SIGMA) and the Joint Working Group on Audit Activities (JWGAA) of the Contact Committee of SAIs of the EU (JWGAA).

In his speech, Andrii Maisner emphasized the readiness of the Accounting Chamber to actively cooperate with the Network and share its experience and developments. “We have a common goal — EU membership and our Supreme Audit Institutions play a key role in its achievement. The progress of reforms and steps towards the European Union membership are crucial for us,” he underlined.

Andrii Maisner also thanked the representatives of the SIGMA, the Swedish National Audit Office, as well as the representatives of the European Court of Auditors for supporting important initiatives in the challenging process of acquiring EU membership.

During the meeting, SAIs’ representatives agreed and adopted a new Network Cooperation Framework, and heard the Progress report on the implementation of the Network Work Plan 2022–2025, which will contribute to further improvement of audit activity.

Background. The Network of Supreme Audit Institutions of Candidate and Potential Candidate Countriesis the Contact Committee of SAIs of the EU’s initiative, the right to participate in the activities of which the Accounting Chamber received when Ukraine acquired the status of a candidate country for EU membership. Currently, except for the Accounting Chamber, the Network includes SAIs of Albania, Montenegro, Republic of North Macedonia, Republic of Serbia, Turkey, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo (observer) and the European Court of Auditors (ECA). With the acquisition of the EU membership candidate status by the Sakartvelo, the SAI of Sakartvelo was also invited to participate in the meeting.
