Parliament's role in the budget process: The Accounting Chamber took part in the training activities of the INTER PARES partnership program

The workshop on the role of parliaments in the budget process was organized in Prague (Czech Republic) as part of the implementation of the EU Global Project to Strengthen the Capacity of Parliaments and the Priority Partnership Plan "Strengthening the Role of Parliament in the Budget Process, in particular the Creation of the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO)"

The workshop was held by Chamber of Deputies Parliament of the Czech Republic on March 11 - 12. Issues of parliamentary control, accountability, budget planning and budgeting in extreme conditions were discussed during the event.

Presentations on the Ukrainian experience during the workshop were made by a Member of the Budget Committee, Head of the Working Group on the Creation and Functioning of the Parliamentary Budget Office Pavlo Frolov and Chief Officer of the Secretariat of the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Vatulov. Also, representatives of the parliamentary bodies of the Czech Republic, France, Norway, Hungary, Lithuania and Denmark shared their experiences.

A significant part of the workshop is devoted to relations between Parliaments and Supreme Audit Institutions. The Accounting Chamber's experience in this area and the prospects for improving such interaction were presented by Vasyl Nevidomyi, Member of the Accounting Chamber.

The discussion will continue during the current week. Representatives of Germany will join their colleagues during the study visit of the workshop’s participants to the Germanfederal parliament − the Bundestag.
