The meeting of the Contact Committee of the Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU is taking place in Lisbon. The Accounting Chamber in the status of the official observer participates in the event for the first time together with the Supreme Audit Institutions of 27 EU member states, the European Court of Auditors, the OECD/SIGMA and the Supreme Audit Institutions of 7 EU candidate countries. The meeting is chaired by the President of the Portuguese Court of Auditors, the Chair of the Contact Committee of the Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU José Tavares.
"This is the testimony of respect for Ukraine and support from our European colleagues, as well as recognition of the unique role of the independent Supreme Audit Institution of Ukraine in the process of European integration, to the conclusions of which our international partners are more attentive amid unprecedented financial, technical, humanitarian and other support because of the russian terrorist war and aggression against Ukraine", - the head of the Accounting Chamber Andrii Maisner noted in his comment.
One of the key issues on the agenda of the governing body of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU countries is the contribution of Supreme Audit Institutions to the efficiency of achieving goals in the EU energy sector. The European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, who demonstrated her comprehensive support for Ukraine, as well as other participants of the high-level meeting, was one of the speakers at the meeting.
"Our European colleagues emphasize the importance of active cooperation with Ukraine which seeks to become a member of the EU. At the same time these days an international event is taking place in London, where the amounts of new international financial aid from the EU, the UK, the USA, Germany, France and other our partners have already been publicly announced. This necessitates the strengthening of efforts of the Accounting Chamber as an independent external auditor to ensure the trust of partners through proper accountability, transparency and efficiency of the use of funds amid the war and for the reconstruction of the country. In this regard, we have already been preparing together with colleagues from the USA and the EU to conduct thematic audits regarding the international financing of Ukraine's needs. We have already been conducting an audit of funding from the World Bank," Andrii Maisner emphasized, commenting on the participation of the Accounting Chamber in the work of the governing body of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU countries.
